Students

Dream Canada International (DCI) is a non-profit English as a Second Language (ESL) program that ministers to international youth. Our students come to Canada from the Dream School in Korea for the first or second semester of their grade 8 year. Here, students are placed in a host home for the duration of their five month stay. As an honorary family member, each student joins in on the activities, chores, and rhythms of their host family. During the semester, the school provides a Monday to Friday classroom schedule with ESL trained teachers. In addition to academics students participate in physical activities twice a week. These activities include skating, golfing, kick-boxing, and the like! Students also participate in weekly clubs, such as art, worship, cooking, or sewing.

Teachers

The teaching staff of DCI works closely together as a team to create a fun and engaging learning experience for students. Upon arrival, students are evaluated and placed in one of three classes based on their initial understanding of English. Because of our smaller class sizes, teachers are able to spend time focusing on each individual’s learning needs. As a result, we consistently see a vast improvement in English comprehension, as well as confidence in speaking by the end of the semester.

We are looking for people experienced in teaching English as a second language, who want to invest in developing students through education, and who are passionate about discipling young people in their faith throughout the course of their time together. If you are a Christian, TESOL trained, and believe you would be a good fit for our program staff, click the link below to fill out an application.

Host Families

Our host parents are welcoming, Christ-centred couples who recognize the value in creating a positive experience for the students as they spend five months away from home. As Korean parents entrust their children to our care, we believe there is a unique opportunity for your home to become a place of international ministry as you host Dream Canada students.

When hosting with us, you are never hosting a student alone. We have staff dedicated to supporting, praying for, and checking in on our host families as students integrate into the home. We host two group gatherings per semester, which create a sense of community and network.

Testimonials

"I have been a pastor at Northgate Church in the Comox Valley for just over five years. The relationship that the church has had with Dream Canada International predates me and has been a positive one throughout my tenure. As pastor of the church I have had opportunity to take part in the chapels at the school, get to know a lot of the staff, many of whom attend Northgate, interact with students, most of which attend our youth group and Church services on a weekly basis and converse with host parents, who also frequently attend Northgate. Through these interactions I have recognized that the leadership of the school is creating a highly integrated, thoughtful experience for the students and have indeed developed an environment for students to develop as people, learn Canadian culture, and be introduced to Jesus.

From my observation, it has appeared that the school operates at a highly professional level and cares for the personal development of each student. Host families have had a good experience with the students and regularly sign up for the opportunity year after year. Also, more and more we hear good reports and excitement from the students even before they arrive to Canada. This is a beneficial program for all involved as far as I can tell. I unreservedly recommend this program under the leadership it currently has. "

-Pastor Evan Allnut, Northgate Foursquare

We have seen a beautiful fusion of Korean and Canadian culture as our program unfolds. We believe at dinner tables, in classrooms, and gatherings is where the deepest connections happen.
